Duncan is NBAs Iron-Man
By Bi Yu posted 4/29/15

Tim Duncan is still the Spurs leader.  With all the San Antonio talent, Tony Parker, Kawhi Leonard and Manu Ginoibli, 18-year veteran Tim Duncan is still the teams center piece.

He had us all witnesses tonight with his cagey performance compiling 21 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and 1 game defining block that went viral in the Twitter-verse.  With a minute remaining and Spurs up 107-105 he denied high-flying youngster Blake Griffin.

Duncan who just turned 39 this week led his team playing over 38 minutes in a crucial game-5 where the Spurs lassoed the Los Angeles Clippers to get a 111-107 win.  The Wake Forest alum who entered the NBA in 1997 shot a remarkable 66.5-percent from the field and 83-percent from the line to secure the win and a 3-2 series lead.

At age 39, Duncan is like a dinosaur in NBA age, yet he has proven to be as dominant in the first round of these playoffs as he has been in his playoff career that has earned him 5 NBA Titles.  Even though Duncan averaged a career-low 10.6 points this season, he is ready for the playoffs, as Coach Greg Popovich is accused of resting players during the season to keep them fresh for the playoffs.

Tim Duncan 5 Championship ringsWhen asked in the post-game interview whether he still has a lot in his tank, Duncan replied, “A lot is a stretch.  I still feel that I can be effective in my roll. Right now all I’m doing is playing a roll on this team.”

Modesty has also been a hallmark of his Hall-of-Fame career, where he may been the best power-forward in NBA history.  Duncan has become the leagues iron-man playing in 1331 career games where he has started all but 2.  The playoffs are Duncan’s time.  His career playoff average in 21.2 points versus 19.5 in the regular season.  This year he made a 7 point playoff jump to average over 17 ppg.

This perennial All-Star is looking to lead the defending NBA Champions to another improbable ring.  You can never count the Spurs out, especially with the T-Rex who know how to rip championship rings from opponents.
