- Jeff Duncan-Andrade, Ph.D., is a Post-doctoral
Research Fellow and Director of Urban Teacher Development at
UCLA¹s Institute for Democracy, Education and Access (IDEA).
At the Institute, Duncan-Andrade is the lead researcher on ³Teachers
as Agents of Equity², a multi-year urban teacher development
project in the Los Angeles Unified Schools, District I. He has
also served on the teaching faculty for UCLA¹s Teacher Education
Program (Center X) and for TeachLynwood, both of which work to
prepare teachers for teaching in urban schools.

- Before coming to UCLA in June of 2002,
Duncan-Andrade taught English and coached in the Oakland Public
Schools for 10 years, while completing his doctoral studies at
the University of California, Berkeley.

- Duncan-Andrade¹s research interests
and publications include urban schooling and curriculum change,
critical pedagogy, and cultural studies. He is currently finishing
a co-authored book on effective uses of critical pedagogy in
the secondary classroom and a second book on the role of youth
culture in school and classroom culture.
